ICE MEMORY PROJECT AND THE K2 EXPEDITION SPONSORED BY CARRERA EYEWEAR
Taking part in initiatives of great scientific and cultural value is always a meaningful experience. Carrera Eyewear had the honour of accompanying the Ice Memory expeditions, an initiative dedicated to collecting and preserving ice samples from retreating glaciers.
Ice Memory is an international scientific initiative recognized by UNESCO. Its goal is to collect and preserve ice core samples from glaciers worldwide that are at risk of disappearing due to global warming. These ice cores hold invaluable records of past climate and environmental crucial data for scientific research and sustainable policy-making.For this purpose, in 2024 the Ice memory team participated in the “K2 70” expedition, an initiative committed to studying snow and ice in the Karakorum with the aim of understanding the impacts of climate change of the region.
Carrera Eyewear was the official supplier of this challenging project since its fits perfectly with the Brand’s DNA, especially considering its heritage in the mountain world.

During this expedition, the team faced a significant challenge: a massive serac broke off from the eastern face of K2, and swept through their tends.
Fortunately, all the members escaped unharmed and the glaciological mission continued with determination.
The episode highlights the challenges and
dangers of conducting research in extreme environments while also emphasizing the importance of such studies.

Carrera eyewear is proud to have supported the ICE MEMORY PROJECT during the K2 Expedition, a mission that contributed to groundbreaking climate research. We extend our deepest gratitude to the entire team for their unwavering dedication and courag in the face of extreme conditions.
